Feeling “Stuck” in Quarantine?

Now more than ever people are spending the majority of their time behind the walls of their homes due to COVID-19. Millions of people in our country are still unemployed (by no fault of their own) and spending the bulk of their time indoors, not following a healthy routine, skipping daily exercise, losing control of their eating habits, etc. While this new way of living might appeal to some, others find quarantine extremely inconvenient and limiting. At times it can even feel like your down-right “stuck” not knowing what the hell to do with yourself or your time.

The great news is that you DO NOT have to feel this way. I’m going to share a tip with you today that you can apply and put into practice TODAY in order to break the “stuck” feeling and get you back to THRIVING in life, all while in quarantine! It’s going to require a small bit of effort but it can be potentially life-changing for you!

What I’m going to share can help you whether you’re wanting to improve your eating habits, increase your productivity, begin following a workout routine, or balance meaningful work and joyful play. In order to implement this tip and make it worthwhile it’s important that you take a moment to reflect on just why you might be feeling “stuck” in the first place.

It’s possible that you have lost sight or focus on your goals and values as a result of everything going on in the world. Perhaps it has caused you to fall out of your normal routine and become a little more lazy. It’s possible that you’re now confused or unsure of your short-term or long-term goals. Your destination or road-map to get there has become unclear. Whatever it may be is particularity of concern. What’s Important is this… “What Are You Going To Do About It”?

Try answering some of the following questions.

  • What things are important to you? Identify them.
  • What are some realistic and reasonable goals that you have? (short-term or long-term)
  • What things are currently taking up your time?
  • What are some of your distractions or conflicting commitments you have that are preventing you from progressing towards your goals?

Having check-in’s with yourself and asking provoking questions like these can help you reflect on your current habits while increasing your own self-awareness. This is going to be remarkably important if you truly want to break through your procrastination, fix unhealthy habits and get rid of that “stuck” feeling.

Now, it’s time I tell you what this life-changing tip is and why it’s going to help you. Simply put my tip for you is to “Make Time”. If you DO NOT make time for yourself, time will be TAKEN from you. Take 5 minutes out of your day to “Make Time” for yourself. Use a planner, calendar, to-do list, use something to plan and manage the time in your day. If you’re thinking “How can something so simple and basic be life-changing”, let me put it to you this way..

Making time for yourself is another way of telling yourself that “YOU” matter! Making time for yourself is a commitment to not only you but also your goals, values and your priorities. By taking 5 minutes of your day to plan and prepare, you are setting yourself up for success. Making time will allow you to determine what actions are truly important for you.

Just recently, I began using my journal again for making time and prioritizing the time in my day and I’ve noticed a very clear and direct correlation between my overall productiveness and the frequency of which I use my journal. We NEED to act like the CEO of our of lives and take charge of our learning, our growth and our TIME. It’s a basic skill but it’s often overlooked.

DO NOT MAKE IT HARD. Again, this action is a very easy one and takes no more than 5 minutes of our time to complete. Build a new daily routine around the 5 minute action of “Making Time”. Carrying out this action everyday will help you feel more empowered and in complete control of your life. “Making Time” is realistically within your own capacity and could be the missing link for you to break through your laziness or learning that new skill you always wanted to. “Make Time” and you’ll be THRIVING and working towards your goals in no time!

The small actions like these, when done CONSISTENTLY, really create momentum and a foundation in your life which make everything else possible. They also help to empower and inspire you to do more! Actions that support our goals are also satisfying when completed, especially when they’re directed towards helping you grow as an individual. Get back to doing the basics, do them consistently, and master them. Don’t let the many obligations of life strip you of your time. Instead, be the one that “Makes Time” for them.

Finally, It’s absolutely normal and human for us to feel “stuck” and wandering off our path from time to time. However, It’s not normal to stay there. Identify what is important to you and “Make Time” for you to get those things done. You can also come up with your own daily 5 minute action that’s fitting for you, your goals and your life. Turn your small daily action into a habit that you can do consistently; to support and help guide you towards reaching your goals. Prioritize and “Make Time” so that your time is not taken from you!
